US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland discussed via telephone on Wednesday their concerns regarding the recent arrest by Russia of US citizen Paul Whelan on charges of espionage, as well as the extradition request by Washington for Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou, Department of State Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said in a release

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th January, 2019) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland discussed via telephone on Wednesday their concerns regarding the recent arrest by Russia of US citizen Paul Whelan on charges of espionage, as well as the extradition request by Washington for Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou, Department of State Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said in a release.

"They noted their continued commitment to Canada's conduct of a fair, unbiased and transparent legal proceeding and US extradition request with respect to Ms. Meng Wanzhou, the Chief Financial Officer of Huawei," Palladino said.
