Pompeo Discusses Baghdad-Erbil Outstanding Issues With Iraqi, Kurdish Leaders - State Dept

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th August, 2018) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in two separate phone calls commended Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi and Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani for progress made in resolving issues between their administrations, the State Department said in a press release.
"The Secretary expressed appreciation for the two leaders progress in resolving outstanding Baghdad-Erbil issues according to the Iraqi constitutions framework for dialogue," the release said on Tuesday.
In his phone conversations with Abadi and Barzani, Pompeo emphasized the importance of forming a moderate new Iraqi government following the constitutional time-line that is responsive to the expectations of the Iraqi people, the release added.
Pompeo also underscored continuing US support for a strong, sovereign, and prosperous Iraq as outlined in Washingtons bilateral Strategic Framework Agreement with Iraq, according to the release.
