Putin Recalls at Talks With Bolton US National Coat of Arms Has 'Out of Many, One' Motto

Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled during the talks with US National Security Adviser John Bolton on Tuesday that the US national coat of arms has a Latin inscription "E pluribus unum," which means "Out of Many, One," thereby stressing the need for the two countries to look for common ground despite differences of opinion.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd October, 2018) Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled during the talks with US National Security Adviser John Bolton on Tuesday that the US national coat of arms has a Latin inscription "E pluribus unum," which means "Out of Many, One," thereby stressing the need for the two countries to look for common ground despite differences of opinion.

"Therefore, despite a difference of approaches, I believe we can and must seek common ground," Putin said at a meeting with Bolton after making a reference to "E pluribus unum" inscription.

Bolton said that it was exactly what the United States was seeking to do.

"As far as I remember, the US coat of arms displays an eagle, which holds 13 arrows in its left talon and an olive branch a symbol of peace-loving policy with 13 olives in the other talon.

A question is: has your eagle pecked all the olives, leaving only arrows?" Putin added, provoking laughter among members of the two delegations.

Bolton, in turn, expressed hope that the talks would help them to clarify the situation in bilateral relations, adding that he had not brought an olive branch with him.

"That's what I thought," Putin reacted.

The US national security adviser noted that the fact that the eagle on the US national coat of arms has an olive branch in its right talon reflected the US foreign policy priorities.

Bolton arrived in Russia back on Sunday and earlier held talks with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
