DOHA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th March, 2019) Qatar is interested in establishing partnership with Russian companies to launch the country's first granary, which is to be built by the end of 2019, head of food Security Office of Qatari Ministry of Municipalities and Environment Masoud Al Marri told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"Qatar is currently looking for foreign partners, including Russia, to launch the granary and its operation. Doha has already discussed this topic with some Russian companies," Al Marri said on the sidelines of agricultural exhibition AgriteQ.

Qatar has storage facilities for strategic products such as rice, sugar and oil in the port of Hamad, he added.

Al Marri specified that the amount of grain that would be kept in the granary for two years was supposed to be sufficient for three million people.

International Agricultural Exhibition AgriteQ has been held in Qatar for six years already serving as a platform for local and international agriculture stakeholders to exchange experience, discover trends and create new business opportunities in agricultural sector.
