Francesco Rocca, the president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), said on Tuesday that the first batch of humanitarian supplies has arrived in Venezuela
"Our @ifrc first consignment of medicines, medical supplies and equipment has arrived in #Venezuela. This is a great step forward to support vulnerable people in the country!" Rocca said on Twitter.
On March 30, Rocca announced that the organization had brokered a deal with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and opposition leader Juan Guaido to allow humanitarian aid to the country.
He said the aid delivery could begin in two weeks' time, and would be able to reach some 650,000 people in need.
Venezuela has been suffering from an economic crisis for months. Since January, the situation in the country has also been exacerbated due to a political crisis.
Russia and China have recently sent medicines to the South American country.
