KUALA LUMPUR (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st November, 2018) Russia seeks to build partnership relations with Asian countries and the states of the region also strive for cooperation, but insufficient awareness about each other and lack of information exchange remain a significant drawback for building such a kind of interaction, deputy head of Russia's Federal Agency on Press and Mass Communications, Tatyana Naumova said on Wednesday.
"Russia has a desire to strengthen its presence in this region ... The goal of Russia's current agenda in Asia is to build mutually beneficial partnership ... One fundamental obstacle that exists in our relations is a lack of knowledge about Russia, the limitations of joint modern mass media communications and information exchange between the sides," Naumova said on the sidelines of the Asian conference of the Valdai Discussion Club.
According to Naumova, Russia and the Asian states should raise awareness about each other, about business conditions in the countries and views on major international problems.
"Expert meetings like the event today, thus, are especially important for building strong partnership," the official noted.
Earlier in November, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Singapore to take part in the meeting of Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as in the 13th East Asia Summit.
