MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th March, 2019) Moscow strongly condemns the upcoming march of Waffen-SS legionnaires in Latvia's capital and believes that the event desecrates the memory of those who fought the Nazis, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
Marches commemorating deceased members of the Latvian Legion of the Waffen SS are held annually in Riga on March 16.
"On March 16, a regular march of former Waffen-SS legionnaires and their followers among local right-wing and neo-Nazi organizations will take place in Riga. We consider this event to be another cynical incident of glorifying the Nazis and desecrating the memory of millions of people who fought against the Brown Plague," the ministry said.
The Waffen-SS, as well as other Nazi organizations, such as the Gestapo, SD and SA, were outlawed following the Nuremberg trials.
