Russia and Brunei will continue developing defense and counterterrorism cooperation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday after the talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Bruneian Second Foreign Minister Dato Erywan Yusof
"We will continue to develop defense cooperation and collaborate with the aim of fighting terrorism, drug trafficking, transnational crime and other security challenges," Lavrov said at the joint press conference after talks.
Yusof is in Russia for a working visit from May 23-25.
In May 2016, Russia and Brunei attended the joint ADMM plus Exercise on maritime security and counter-terrorism under the auspices of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. In 2017, the defense ministers of Russia and Brunei held a meeting in Moscow and attended a conference on international security. Several months later, the Russian Pacific Fleet sent its anti-submarine warfare ships Admiral Panteleyev and Admiral Vinogradov, as well as tanker Boris Butoma, to Brunei for an inaugural official visit under a bilateral cooperation program.
