Moscow reserves the right to respond to the new EU sanctions over the Salisbury incident, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Monday
Earlier in the day, the EU Council sanctioned Russia's GRU top officials over Salisbury incident.
"The information campaign unleashed by the British authorities on this case pursues, first of all, domestic political goals. It is indicative that its new surge coincided with the regular crisis wave during the Brexit negotiations," the ministry said.
It reaffirmed its principled position that the imposition of unilateral restrictive measures in circumvention of the UN Security Council was illegal.
"We consider the institution and the beginning of the practical functioning of the above-mentioned mechanism as evidence of the European Union's disrespect for the Chemical Weapons Convention... We reserve the right to respond to this unfriendly action," the ministry said.
