Russia, Turkey, Iran Discussed Idlib Situation At Meeting With De Mistura - Lavrentyev

Russia, Turkey and Iran, the guarantors of the Syrian ceasefire, discussed the situation in the Idlib province at a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, noting the maximum effort needed to avoid civilian suffering, Russian special presidential envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said on Tuesday.
GENEVA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th September, 2018) Russia, Turkey and Iran, the guarantors of the Syrian ceasefire, discussed the situation in the Idlib province at a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, noting the maximum effort needed to avoid civilian suffering, Russian special presidential envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, Russia, Turkey and Iran held a quadrilateral meeting with de Mistura. The meeting lasted around 2.5 hours.
"The situation in Idlib was discussed.
It was noted that the situation was complicated, and that it is necessary to make every effort to avoid civilian suffering as a result of the fight against terrorist organizations," Lavrentyev told a briefing in Geneva.
"We hope that the experience that we have from a peaceful resolution of issues related to the Syrian settlement and the functioning of de-escalation zones in Eastern Ghouta, in Homs area as well as in the southeast, will be brought to the table when resolving the situation in Idlib," the diplomat stressed.
