Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, UN Political Chief Discuss Syria, Libya - Ministry

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin talked about the crises in Syria and Libya, specifically how to resolve them, with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary Anne DiCarlo in Moscow on Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th November, 2018) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin talked about the crises in Syria and Libya, specifically how to resolve them, with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary Anne DiCarlo in Moscow on Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"There was a detailed exchange of views on a number of regional issues with a focus on the crisis settlement in Syria and Libya," the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, DiCarlo also had talks with the heads of foreign ministry departments specializing in matters related to the situations in Ukraine and the South Caucasus.

Additionally, the UN political chief met with Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev.

Libya has been in a state of turmoil since the overthrow of its long-time leader, Muammar Gaddafi, in 2011. Ever since, two rival governments have been struggling for control over the country. Syria, on the other hand, has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government forces fighting against numerous opposition groups and terrorist organizations.
