Russian Pacific Fleet, Philippine Navy Discuss Cooperation In Pacific Rim - Spokesman

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 02nd October, 2018) Commander of the Russian Pacific Fleet Sergei Avakyants has discussed with the officers of the Philippine Navy the issues relating to the international military cooperation in the Pacific Rim, Russian Pacific Fleet spokesman Nikolai Voskresensky said on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Philippine Navy's landing platform dock Tarlac arrived in Vladivostok for the first time. Thus, Avakyants held meetings with the Philippine Navy's command.

"The Pacific Fleet commander assured the [meeting's] participants that the leadership of the Russian Defense Ministry attached great importance to the development of the international military cooperation, strengthening of comprehensive ties between the armed forces and navies, in particular in the Pacific Rim," Voskresensky said.

Avakyants, in particular, informed the Philippine counterparts of the Pacific Fleet's participation in the recent Vostok- 2018 military drills and of the goals of the fleet's upcoming trip, during which the Russian vessels are expected to visit nine countries.

Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos Sorreta, who was also present at the meeting, noted that the historic visit of the Philippine mariners to Russia will contribute to the development of good neighborly relations between the two countries and their navies.
