Russian, Tajik Presidents Agree to Continue Cooperation in Field of Security

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that he had agreed with his Tajik counterpart, Emomali Rahmon, to continue strengthening defense industry cooperation and the fight against drug trafficking

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th April, 2019) Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that he had agreed with his Tajik counterpart, Emomali Rahmon, to continue strengthening defense industry cooperation and the fight against drug trafficking.

"Of course, during the talks ... we agreed to further deepen defense, defense industry, anti-terror and anti-drug cooperation both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization," Putin said after talks with Rahmon.

The Russian president stressed that they had also discussed in detail the security situation in Central Asia, including in the context of threats coming from the territory of Afghanistan.

The positions of Russia and Tajikistan on key aspects of the regional and global agenda are either identical or at least similar, Putin noted.

"When discussing international issues, the positions of the two countries on the key aspects of the regional and global agenda were identical or similar," he said.

Putin clarified that Russia and Tajikistan were seeking to coordinate actions in integration processes of which they were active participants.
