ATHENS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st February, 2019) Russian High Commissioner for Human Rights Tatiana Moskalkova and her Ukrainian counterpart, Lyudmila Denisova, held talks on the sidelines of a conference devoted to the 20th anniversary of the office of Greek ombudsperson in Athens on Thursday, a Sputnik correspondent reported.
No official full-fledged meeting took place between the two ombudswomen.
After bilateral relations between Moscow and Kiev worsened, a number of Russian nationals were convicted or arrested in Ukraine, like RIA Novosti Ukraine portal head Kirill Vyshinsky, while several Ukrainians were prosecuted or face charges in Russia.
Mutual accusations of initiating politically-motivated cases have contributed to the deadlock in relations.
Moskalkova and Denisova have been maintaining regular contacts since that. A day before visit to Greece, Denisova expressed wish to meet with Moskalkova in Greece. Moskalkova, meanwhile, said on Wednesday that her office was taking every effort to facilitate the release of Vyshinsky, who was detained in Kiev in May on suspicion of treason and support for the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics.
