BUSAN,(APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Sep, 2018 ) :South Korea said Tuesday that its three research stations have been registered in an international monitoring system for oceans in a move to join efforts to help address global warming and changes in the marine environment.

Data collected at the three research stations is now available at OceanSITES, according to the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology.

OceanSITES has been set up to collect, deliver and promote the use of high-quality data from long-term, high-frequency observations at fixed locations in the ocean.

OceanSITES typically aim to collect multidisciplinary data worldwide from full-depth water columns as well as the atmosphere.

The three South Korean stations are located in waters off Ieo Island, a South Korean-controlled submerged rock south of Jeju Island, and the two others in waters off the southwestern county of Sinan and the western county of Ongjin, according to the institute.

Seoul uses the data collected at the stations for weather forecasting and other scientific purposes.
