MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th May, 2019) The Sudanese opposition Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change issued a statement, calling a general strike for Tuesday and Wednesday amid a standstill with the military on establishing a civilian government in the country.
The alliance called for "beginning a strike on Tuesday in private and state-run organizations and companies ... to continue the political strike for two days and walk out to squares with a sit-in strike in the capital and regions."
On April 11, Sudan was rocked by a military coup that ousted long-time President Omar Bashir from power following months of anti-government protests.
The Transitional Military Council (TMC) took over but the protests continued as the opposition called for a transition of power to a civilian-led government.
In mid-May, the TMC and the opposition reached accord on a three-year transition period in the country.
On Friday, the opposition said it was planning to establish a parliamentary republic with expanded powers of the government and parliament for a transitional period.
