Tokyo, Washington Discussing Possibility of Trump-Abe Meeting on WEF Sidelines - Reports

TOKYO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd December, 2018) The governments of Japan and the United States are currently discussing the possibility of a meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos at the beginning of 2019, local media reported, citing diplomatic sources.

If agreed on, the meeting is likely to touch upon such issues as economic relations between Japan and the United States as well as the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the Kyodo news agency reported.

Before attending the WEF, Abe is expected to visit Russia to hold the 25th meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to media reports, the Japanese prime minister might visit Moscow on January 21. Earlier in December, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the date of Abe's visit to Russia was still under discussion.

The WEF will take place in Davos on January 22-25.
