Trump Nominates OIRA Chief To Replace Kavanaugh In Court Of Appeals For The DC Circuit

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th November, 2018) US President Donald Trump said he has nominated Office of Information and Regulation Affairs (OIRA) Administrator Neomi Rao to fill the seat on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia (DC) circuit vacated by Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

"I want to say today that I just nominated Naomi [Rao] to be on DC Circuit of Appeals to seat of Justice Brett Kavanaugh," Trump said at the White House.

On October 6, the US Senate confirmed Kavanaugh to be US Supreme Court justice despite a series of allegations of sexual abuse brought against him.

In response to the allegations, the White House ordered the FBI to conduct an additional background investigation of Kavanaugh in late September.

OIRA oversees the US government's regulatory activities and ensures compliance with existing executive orders and laws. Rao has led the agency since July 2017.
