US Vice President Mike Pence will head the US delegation to the inauguration of Mexico's President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Mexican Ambassador to the United States Geronimo Gutierrez told Sputnik on Tuesday.
When asked whether US President Donald Trump has confirmed his participation, Gutierrez said, "I don't think that's the case."
"Our understanding the only thing that is conformed is that Vice President Mike Pence will be heading the US delegation to the transition ceremony in Mexico," Gutierrez said.
Earlier in November, Yeidckol Polevnsky, President of Obrador's Morena political party, said that Trump confirmed his participation in the inauguration ceremony, the local newspaper Milenio reported.
On October 11, Pence announced that at Trump's direction he will head the US delegation at Obrador's inauguration.
Obrador won a landslide victory Mexican presidential election in July.
The president-elect's swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for December 1.
