UK Anti-Doping Agency Slams 'Troubling' Vote to Reinstate Russia

The chief of the UK Anti-Doping authority (UKAD) on Thursday lashed out at the global anti-doping agency WADA for voting to lift the suspension of Russia and questioned its independence.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2018) The chief of the UK Anti-Doping authority (UKAD) on Thursday lashed out at the global anti-doping agency WADA for voting to lift the suspension of Russia and questioned its independence.

"The outcome of today's WADA meeting is deeply troubling for clean sport," UKAD Chief Executive Nicole Sapstead said in a statement.

She said WADA's executive committee - which reinstated Russia's RUSADA by a majority vote - missed an opportunity to postpone this decision and "give all relevant parties enough time to put forward their views."

"We cannot understand the urgency to make a decision," she said, adding that the recent events showed that WADA's governance system "is not sufficiently independent."

The vote in the Seychelles ended three years of suspension and reinstated RUSADA as compliant with the global agency's anti-doping code after Russia was accused of tampering with doping probes.
