UN Reports 94 Civilian Deaths In October From Fighting In Yemen's Al Hudaydah District

Increased fighting in the Yemeni port of Al Hudaydah and the surrounding governorate killed more than 90 persons last month, United Nations spokesman Farhan Haq told reporters on Friday.
"In October alone, 94 civilians were killed and 95 injured in Hudaydah governorate," Haq said. "There's also damage to civilian infrastructure including health facilities and houses."
Haq also disclosed plans by the UN World food Program to dramatically escalate aid deliveries to Yemen, from present operations that feed between 7 million and 8 million people per month to 14 million.
Yemeni government forces, backed by the Saudi-led coalition airpower, began an offensive to retake the Al Hudaydah from Houthi rebels in June.
Aid agencies have long warned that fighting in the Red Sea port city risks escalating the Yemen's humanitarian crisis, since Al Hudaydah is the entry point for the bulk of Yemen's commercial imports and aid supplies.
