The United States will donate $397 million in additional humanitarian assistance for the people of Syria in 2019- 2020, the Department of State said in a press release on Thursday
"This brings US humanitarian assistance in response to the Syria crisis to more than $9.5 billion since the start of the crisis and reflects the steadfast commitment of the United States to providing lifesaving support to the people of Syria impacted by conflict both inside Syria and throughout the region," the release said.
Out of $397 million, nearly $135 million will be allocated for humanitarian needs inside Syria, the rest will be provided to Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt - countries that host most of the 5.7 million Syrians who have fled the country, according to the release.
Contributions will allow UN relief agencies, non-governmental organizations and other agencies to provide food, shelter, medical care, education, and other relief for Syrians in need, the release said.
