YEKATERINBURG (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd May, 2019) The press service of Russia's Yekaterinburg city administration told Sputnik on Wednesday that so far it had received feedback from more than 4,000 local residents regarding a possible construction site for a new church.
A 10-day poll was launched by the local administration on Monday in light of the protests against building an Orthodox church in a park in the city center. A public vote would be organized afterwards for the locals to choose the construction site.
"As of today, the Yekaterinburg administration has received more than 4,000 proposals," the press service said.
The protests against the construction of the church of St. Catherine and in favor of saving the park in its place started in Yekaterinburg on May 13. Local authorities have said the construction project meets all legal requirements. Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed last week to poll local residents to hear their opinion on the issue.
