World Jiu-Jitsu Championship begins tomorrow in Abu Dhabi

The 11th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, ADWPJJC, will be launched tomorrow under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 19th Apr, 2019) The 11th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, ADWPJJC, will be launched tomorrow under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The ADWPJJC will be attended by elite players from more than 100 countries who will compete in the tournament and win prizes worth more than US$600,000.

The championship will commence with the Jiu-Jitsu Festival which offers a unique platform for young and white belt holders and also the People of Determination champions to demonstrate their skills.

On Sunday, 21st April, the women's competition will kick-off the junior championship, while the men’s competition will start on 22nd April. All categories of belts except white will compete on 23rd April for the Masters' title.

From 24th to 26th April, the world champions from various countries will be competing for the top title in the Jiu-Jitsu World Championships.

Mohammed Hussain Al Marzouqi, ADWPJJC Director told WAM, "The championship witnessed an unprecedented demand for registration where we exceeded the required number of players and there are a number of them on the waiting list who hope to participate in the event of any player dropping out due to an emergency."

The number of black belt participants was 12 percent higher than the target while the number of participants in the Blue Belt category increased by 13.3 percent. In the junior championship, the enrolment rate for male players was 28 percent higher than the target, and for women, it was 30 percent higher.

A decade after the launch of the Abu Dhabi International Championships for Jujitsu Professionals, UAE JJF is proud to have more than 35,000 players from various categories of belts including 11,000 UAE nationals taking part in various local regional and international championships.

Abu Dhabi is the home of Jiu-Jitsu in the world where the support for the sport has never ceased and it enjoys huge popularity at various levels.
