PARIS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 07th October, 2022) The Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD) of the Netherlands on Friday announced the detention of a 55-year old Dutch man in the country's east for allegedly supplying microchips to Russia in circumvention of sanctions.
"On Tuesday, September 27, the FIOD detained a 55-year old man in the country's east. He is suspected of violating the sanction regulation," the service said in a statement.
The detainee is suspected of supplying Russian companies with microchips that could potentially be used for military purposes, the statement added.
In August, US technology company Nvidia said that Washington had imposed restrictions on the sale of a number of high-tech computer chips to Russia and China fearing they can be used for military purposes. The high-tech products of another US company, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), reportedly came under restrictions as well.
