EU To Implement JCPOA As Long As IAEA Confirms Iran's Compliance With Deal - Mogherini

SIBIU (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 09th May, 2019) The European Union will be committed to the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal signed with Iran in 2015, as long as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirms Tehran's compliance with the deal, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Thursday.

An informal EU summit is taking place in the Romanian city of Sibiu.

"We remain fully committed to the full implementation of the JCPOA, of the nuclear deal ... So far, we have seen Iran fully compliant with all its nuclear-related commitments under the nuclear deal.

The IAEA will continue to monitor these nuclear-related commitments implementation," Mogherini told reporters.

One year after US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, Tehran announced on Wednesday that it had partially discontinued its commitments under the deal and gave Europe 60 days to ensure Iran's interests were protected under the agreement. Otherwise, Tehran is ready to take further steps on scrapping the JCPOA. Paris expressed concern over Tehran's statements about its intention to stop fulfilling a number of obligations under the JCPOA.
