NAROK, Kenya, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Mar, 2018 ) :Flash floods on Wednesday completely cut off the busy Nairobi-Narok road at Mai Mahiu, southwest Kenya, rendering the section impassable, Xinhua reported.
The police said the road was de-linked after a section of it sank over heavy rain and flooding, causing a traffic snarl-up. Traffic Police Commandant Samuel Kimaru said no motorist can use the busy road to connect from Narok to Mai Mahiu as the section in Karima area sank, sweeping away one schoolgirl.
Kimaru said three other students from a local secondary school were saved from being swept away and taken to hospital. The water, as a result of the heavy rains that are pounding most parts of the country, dug a deep gulley on the said section.
Kenya's Meteorological Department had predicted that Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley, Northern, Southeastern, Coast, Central and Nairobi will receive a substantial amount of rainfall, which will cause flooding.
The agency said the rainfall will hit a high of more than 40 mm within 24 hours in Nairobi, Western, Central, South and Central Rift Valley. The heavy rain has caused massive damage on the section of the road last week as floods from nearby hills rage downstream.
Local administrators said the incident had affected many activities including schooling. Recent flash floods have affected several regions, washing away bridges and rendered many roads blocked.
