MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) The overhaul of over 43,000 asylum decisions made in the first half of the year in Germany shows that asylum has been granted unlawfully in only 0.7 percent of such cases, local media reported on Monday, citing the German Interior Ministry.
Following the cases review, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) revoked only 307 out of more than 43,000 positive asylum decisions, which disproves the allegations of systemic irregularities in the work of the agency, according to Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
The information was provided by the ministry in response to a request from Ursula Jelpke, a Die Linke lawmaker, the newspaper noted.
Jelpke, in turn, reportedly holds that the problem is, on the contrary, a "high number of fallaciously rejected asylum applications," a situation which should be redressed by the judicial branch.
Back in April, BAMF appeared at the epicenter of a scandal when it was revealed that the agency's Bremen office had granted residence permits to at least 1,200 refugees who had no legislative grounds for obtaining asylum in Germany. Those granted residency included people considered to be "particularly dangerous" by the German Interior Ministry because of their ties to radical Islamist groups.
