MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) Iranian Resident Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Kazem Gharib Abadi on Thursday called on the European signatories to the Iran nuclear deal to oppose US unilateralism by trying to mitigate the adverse impact of Washington's anti-Iran sanctions, media reported.
Earlier in the day, the Iranian diplomat met with UK Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna Robert Leigh Turner and UK Resident Representative to the IAEA David Hall in the Austrian capital.
According to Iranian media, Gharib Abadi stressed that the IAEA was obliged to create a favorable environment for Tehran to use the cooperation and economic interests stipulated by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal.
The UK representative, in turn, pledged to eliminate the obstacles preventing Tehran from enjoying the benefits laid out in the deal, signed by Iran, the European Union and the P5+1 group of countries China, Germany, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States in 2015.
In May, US President Donald Trump announced that his country would exit the JCPOA, which stipulated the gradual lifting of the anti-Iran sanctions in exchange for Tehran maintaining the peaceful nature of its nuclear program. In addition, Trump decided to reinstate sanctions on Iran.
The unilateral move has been opposed by other signatories to the agreement, which have pledged their commitment to the deal.
