Both houses of the Kazakh parliament will gather on Wednesday noon to swear Senate Speaker Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in as the country's acting president, Akhmet Muradov, a member of the parliament's lower house, the Mazhilis, told Sputnik on Tuesday
"Tomorrow precisely at 12:00 [local time, 06:00 GMT] we are going to gather, both houses of parliament, to swear Tokaev in as the acting president," Muradov said.
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev announced his resignation earlier in the day in a televised address to the nation, saying Tokayev would be the country's acting president until the presidential election scheduled for 2020. Nazarbayev said he would retain the post of the head of the country's Security Council and leader of the Nur Otan party, and remain a member of the Constitutional Council.
