Merkel Congratulates Japanese Emperor Naruhito On Ascending Throne

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has offered congratulations to Emperor Naruhito, who has recently ascended to the throne, according to her statement released on the website of the Federal Government on Wednesday
BERLIN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 01st May, 2019) German Chancellor Angela Merkel has offered congratulations to Emperor Naruhito, who has recently ascended to the throne, according to her statement released on the website of the Federal Government on Wednesday.
Earlier the day, Naruhito succeeded to the Chrysanthemum Throne, the throne of the Emperor of Japan, and pledged to stand with Japanese people. His father, Emperor Akihito, abdicated the previous day, becoming the first Japanese monarch to do so in over 200 years.
"I send you my warmest congratulations on the accession to the throne.
I wish you all the best in your regency and [I wish] your [country] to continue successful development in security and peace," she said.
According to the German chancellor, cooperation between Berlin and Tokyo remains a priority. She expressed hope that Naruhito would help to deepen cooperation between the nations.
Prince Naruhito's ascension marks the end of the Heisei era and the beginning of the Reiwa era which means "beautiful harmony." The new emperor received congratulations from many world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
