MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2019) Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport and Aeroflot airline have expressed their condolences to the families of the plane fire victims, a statement, released on the airport's website on Monday, said.
The tragedy at the airport took place on Sunday. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100), which took off from Moscow toward Murmansk, had to make an emergency landing at the airport due to the fire on board, which ultimately burnt down the aircraft. The recent data from the Russian investigative Committee show that at least 41 people were killed in the tragedy. Children are among the victims.
"Sheremetyevo International Airport together with Aeroflot [which operates the SSJ100] with deep regret confirm the information about the death of passengers of flight SU1492 as a result of an accident with the aircraft on May, 5 at Sheremetyevo Airport.
The management and staff of the airport and airlines perceived as the personal tragedy of flight SU1492 Moscow-Murmansk," the statement said.
Aeroflot and Sheremetyevo will provide assistance to the relatives and friends of the victims of the tragedy, the airport added.
Earlier in the day, Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Transport (Rostransnadzor) said that it would conduct unscheduled inspections of Aeroflot and Sheremetyevo Airport.
