WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) Authorities in the US state of Ohio have arrested Damon Joseph over a plot to carry out an attack on a synagogue in the city of Toledo on behalf of the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia), the Justice Department said in a press release.
"Damon M. Joseph, 21, of Holland, Ohio, was charged today in Federal court with one count of attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization, for allegedly planning an attack on a synagogue in the Toledo, Ohio area," the release said on Monday.
Authorities said Joseph, who was inspired by the IS terror group, spent many months planning the assault, which could have caused dozens of deaths.
FBI agents were able to track the man's activities on social media and got in contact with him after he promoted IS ideology through his accounts. He revealed information about his plans to attack two synagogue to undercover agents and wrote the name and the address of the synagogue where the assault was going to occur.
The man was apprehended last week after he took possession of two semi-automatic rifles, the release added.
