Adelaide, Australia, July 1 (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jul, 2018 ) :Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers was upset by Elijah Winnington in the 200-metres freestyle at Australia's Pan Pac swimming selection trials in Adelaide on Sunday.
Winnington, 18, held off the fast-finishing Chalmers in the final lap to win by just 0.03 of a second in 1:47.01.
"Kyle is a world-class swimmer and I was breathing away from him, but you can feel him creeping up alongside you," Winnington said.
"In that last 10 metres my coach has put it into me day in and day out that it's all heart and all legs and no pain, you've just got to put your head down and go for it and it paid off." The race also featured Olympian Tom Fraser-Holmes, who returned to competitive swimming with fifth place in the 200m freestyle.
Fraser-Holmes was banned for a year for missing three drug tests and only joined a training squad eight weeks ago.
Brianna Throssell won the women's 200m freestyle in 1min 58.09secs from Mikkayla Sheridan and Emma McKeon with all swimmers outside the qualifying time but Throssell and McKeon had been pre-selected for the Pan Pacs team.
Jessica Hansen won the women's 100m breaststroke in 1:06.74, which was under the qualifying time for Pan Pacs.
Jake Packard won the men's 100m breaststroke, Blair Evans won the women's 400m individual medley and Mitch Larkin won the men's 400m individual medley.
The Pan Pacific Championships will be held in Tokyo from August 9-14.
