Russian Firm Presents Honey Tried By Putin, Xi In Vladivostok At Shanghai Food Exhibition

Russian company Taiga Organica, whose honey was tried by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok in 2018, has showcased its product at the ongoing SIAL CHINA 2019 food and beverage exhibition in the Chinese city of Shanghai, the firm's CEO Tatiana Kapustina told Sputnik
Putin and Xi came to the stand of this Blagoveshchensk-based company in September 2018 during a fair on the EEF sidelines.
"Putin treated Xi Jinping to honey cream with blueberries from our stand. Now, we have brought this honey to Shanghai. But honey cream remains somewhat exotic for Chinese consumers. Basically, Chinese prefer buying natural honey, without additives. Mostly linden honey," Kapustina said.
She noted that her company's stand had been chosen by the two leaders by chance.
"We were just lucky.
We had no previous agreements on this with anyone. Prior to the fair's opening on the EEF sidelines, we were told that the two countries' leaders would come and try honey," she said.
According to Kapustina, after Putin and Xi tried the honey, the company's sales rose fivefold.
"Until September 2018, we sold 2 tonnes of packed honey annually to China. After Xi Jinping's visit to Vladivostok, we have started sending to China about 10 tonnes of honey per month," she pointed out.
Kapustina added that she had come to SIAL CHINA 2019 to attract new customers. According to the businesswoman, the company is currently working on the registration of its brand in China, and has already found a distributor for its products in the country.
This year, SIAL CHINA is held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from May 14-16, bringing together more than 4,300 companies from over 60 countries.
