Russia's Bogdanov Says Passed to Sudanese President Invitation to Russia-Africa Summit

KHARTOUM (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th March, 2019) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, who is currently on an official visit to Sudan, said on Saturday that he had passed to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir Moscow's invitation to the first-ever Russia-Africa Summit, set to be held in the Russian resort city of Sochi in October.

Bogdanov arrived in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum late on Friday for talks with al-Bashir and Sudanese Foreign Minister Eldirdiri Mohamed Ahmed.

"I have passed to President al-Bashir the invitation to attend the Russia-Africa Summit � the first ever such a summit in the history of relations between Russia and African countries � which is planned to be held in October in Sochi," Bogdanov told reporters after talks with the president of Sudan.

The official also said that he had communicated to al-Bashir the "best wishes" from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We are happy with the level of trust that Moscow and Khartoum have in international, regional and African matters," Bogdanov said, adding that he had discussed with al-Bashir the Russian-Sudanese cooperation in various areas.

According to the Roscongress Foundation, the upcoming Russia-Africa summit will be attended by the heads of African states and representatives of Russian, African, and international business and government agencies as well as integration associations on the African continent.
