Trump's Security Chief Bolton Laying Ground for War on Iran, Vigilance Required - Senator Chris Murphy

US National Security Adviser John Bolton is paving the way for a war on Iran and Americans must remain vigilant in response, Senator Chris Murphy said on Tuesday

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th February, 2019) US National Security Adviser John Bolton is paving the way for a war on Iran and Americans must remain vigilant in response, Senator Chris Murphy said on Tuesday.

"Bolton says Iran is seeking nuclear weapons. This simply isn't true. The intelligence says the opposite and he knows it," Murphy said in a statement on Twitter. "He is laying the groundwork for war and we all must be vigilant."

On Monday, Bolton claimed in a video posted on the official White House Twitter account that Iran continues to seek nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles to intimidate peaceful people around the world. Bolton also said that the middle Eastern country remains the "central banker" of international terrorism.

The video, which includes the hashtag "40 Years of Failure," in a reference to the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, concluded with a direct message to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei: "I don't think you'll have many more anniversaries to enjoy," Bolton said.

The United States last year reintroduced sanctions on Iran that were waived under a 2015 nuclear deal, co-signed by Russia, China and three EU countries, who vowed to stay in the agreement and continue non-dollar trade with Tehran.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday that Iran would withstand the US sanctions. The president said that the country is currently facing "propaganda, psychological and economic war" and expressed confidence that Tehran would solve and overcome the existing problems.

Earlier in February, Iran introduced a new ballistic missile, dubbed Dezful, capable of hitting targets at the range of 1,000 kilometers (about 621 miles).
