Turkish Forces Neutralize 5 Militants in Country's Southeast, Northern Iraq - Reports

Turkish security forces have killed, captured or forced to surrender five terrorists, who planned to carry out attacks on Turkish bases, in the southeast of Turkey and in the north of Iraq, local media reported on Tuesday, citing the Turkish Army.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 30th October, 2018) Turkish security forces have killed, captured or forced to surrender five terrorists, who planned to carry out attacks on Turkish bases, in the southeast of Turkey and in the north of Iraq, local media reported on Tuesday, citing the Turkish Army.

The Anadolu news agency reported that the militants had been neutralized on Monday in airstrikes carried out in the Turkish province of Hakkari and in the northern Iraqi region of Hakurk.

Terrorists' shelters and arms depot have been destroyed, the agency added.

Ankara is engaged in operations against the Kurdistan Workers' Party, banned in the country, the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia), and also against followers of US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, who is accused by the Turkish authorities of having orchestrated the 2016 failed governmental coup. According to Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akari, security forces killed, captured or forced to surrender over 14,600 terrorists from July 24, 2015, to October 23, 2018.
