WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd March, 2019) The White House is obstructing a House of Representatives investigation of Ivanka Trump's and Jared Kushner's use of personal email and messaging applications by failing to provide requested documents, Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings said in a letter to White House Counsel Pat Cipollone.
"The White House's failure to provide documents and information is obstructing the committee's investigation into allegations of violations of Federal records laws by White House officials," the letter said on Thursday.
The letter, first obtained by Politico and published on the news outlet's website, Names both Kushner and Ivanka Trump as targets of the investigation.
Cummings said the Committee had obtained information that Kushner used the WhatsApp messenger to communicate with foreign leaders, including with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
In addition, Cummings cited evidence that Ivanka Trump had used personal email to conduct official White House business as well as former White House strategist Steve Bannon and former Deputy National Security Adviser K.T. McFarland.
If the White House continues to withhold the documents, the Committee will be forced to consider alternative means to obtain compliance, Cummings said.
