French Minister of Culture visits Louvre Abu Dhabi on the Museum’s first anniversary

One year after the inauguration of Louvre Abu Dhabi by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and French President Emmanuel Macron, the French Minister of Culture,Franck Riester, began a visit to the United Arab Emirates this Friday.

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 09th Nov, 2018) One year after the inauguration of Louvre Abu Dhabi by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and French President Emmanuel Macron, the French Minister of Culture,Franck Riester, began a visit to the United Arab Emirates this Friday.

After a joint meeting with his Emirati counterpart Noura Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, and with Mohamed Al Mubarak, Chairman of Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, the French minister participated in an inaugural visit of Louvre Abu Dhabi’s latest international temporary exhibition, 'Roads of Arabia: Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia', the result of an unprecedented partnership between Louvre Abu Dhabi, Musée du Louvre and the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage.

After 'From One Louvre Abu Dhabi', 'Co-Lab : Contemporary art and savoir-faire', 'Globes : Visions of the World', 'Japanese connections : the birth of Modern Décor', "Roads of Arabia" is part of Louvre Abu Dhabi’s many temporary exhibitions since its opening in November 2017.

In his speech under Louvre Abu Dhabi’s dome, the French minister highlighted the exceptional cultural ties between France and the UAE.

He hailed the partnership between French museums and Louvre Abu Dhabi and paid tribute to the cooperation between French and Emirati teams in the preparation of new temporary exhibitions, with the support of Agence France-Muséums.

After attending Agence France-Muséums extraordinary general assembly, the minister congratulated the agency’s newly elected president, Mrs. Sandra Lagumina, Chairman of the Paris Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse.

He thanked Noura Al Kaabi for her constant support to the 'Emirati French Cultural Dialogue', an initiative launched in February 2018 by the French and UAE governments and extended to April 2019 with the ambition to reinforce the cultural links between the two countries, through a series of more than a hundred events in all artistic domains.

In the framework of the 'Emirati French Cultural Dialogue', the exhibition 'Le French design : how innovation creates history' will open its doors on November 12th in Dubai on the occasion of the Dubai Design Week. France is also working on a partnership with the Sharjah Art Foundation in the perspective of the Sharjah Biennale in 2019. The Minister also announced the venue of the ballet 'Joyaux' of the Opéra national de Paris within the agenda of Abu Dhabi Festival 2019.
