ISLAMABAD (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / NNI - 25th March, 2019) Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday that big crackdown against power theft has started bearing fruit and so far leakage worth Rs 42 billion has been controlled.Using his twitter handle, the minister said about 20,000 FIRs were registered in crackdown against power pilferers and about 2,000 persons involved in theft were arrested.
He disclosed that about 500 employees of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) were found involved in the theft.He said that timely payments to sugarcane farmers on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, did benefit them and now they have resources for next crop.In a tweet, the minister said that after a long time farmers in Punjab and Sindh were paidthe proper price of sugarcane on time due to PM' s directives.
