Islamabad High Court Hints To Block Twitter In Pakistan If Blasphemous Material Not Removed

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Friday hinted to issue orders for blocking the renowned social media site 'Twitter' in Pakistan if its administration didn't assure to remove the sacrilegious material from its site.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jul, 2018 ) :The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Friday hinted to issue orders for blocking the renowned social media site 'Twitter' in Pakistan if its administration didn't assure to remove the sacrilegious material from its site.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of IHC conducted hearing over the case against uploading of blasphemous material on social media. Special Secretary of Interior Ministry and Deputy Attorney General Arshad Kiyani appeared before the court on behalf of federation.
During the course of proceeding, the bench observed that it had announced its verdict on May 2 this year but it was not implemented so far.
The court ordered the Ministry of Interior to appoint an officer of additional secretary rank as amicus curie.
The bench also ordered the Ministry to write a letter to Twitter administration in the light of the court orders.
Justice Siddiqui remarked that why the blasphemous material still exist on twitter. He observed that talking against any state institution in Pakistan is considered worse than talking about sacrilegious material. The judge observed that the petitioner against blasphemous material Suleman Shahid was kidnapped and mentally tortured for seven month.
The court asked the victim to file a separate petition regarding this incident. The court directed the IGP Islamabad to provide security the petitioner and adjourned hearing of the case till next week.
