ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jun, 2018 ) :Former president General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf has resigned on Friday as chairman All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).
Speaking to the tv channel, All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) leader Dr Amjad confirmed that the former army chief has sent his resignation to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Dr Amjad said he has been appointed as new chairman of the party by the former president as Musharraf was unable to run the party from abroad.
The party has sent a formal request to the ECP to notify him as chairman. Musharraf, despite his resignation, will remain the supreme head of APML, he added.
The Election Commission has issued directives to remove Musharraf's name from party presidency.
Musharraf's lifetime disqualification by Peshawar High Court caused a hindrance in the way of party registration.
Earlier this week, the Election Commission rejected Musharraf's nomination papers for NA-1 Chitral, after the Supreme Court withdrew its conditional approval for the former ruler to file nomination papers for the upcoming general election after he failed to appear before the court.
On June 13, the Supreme Court had summoned Pervez Musharraf back to Pakistan.
CJP remarked that Pervez Musharraf will not be arrested until his appearance in the court.
The court warned that the former president's nomination papers will not be reviewed until his return.
