LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Nov, 2018 ) :A Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench on Monday sought reply from National Accountability Bureau (NAB) authorities till December 11 on a petition challenging court orders of declaring Murtaza Amjad, son-in-law of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, a proclaimed absconder in Eden Housing scam.
The bench headed by Justice Muhammad Tariq Abbasi heard the petition filed by Ifrah Murtaza, daughter of the former CJP.
Earlier, petitioner's counsel Asad Manzoor Butt apprised the bench that the NAB had initiated an inquiry against Murtaza Amjad, his father and others in connection with Eden Housing scam. He submitted that NAB got Murtaza Amjad arrested from Dubai through Interpol after a court declared him proclaimed absconder on alleged false statement of the bureau.
He assailed the court orders saying that Murtaza Amjad never played an active role in the Eden business and was not involved in the commission of offence. He pleaded with the court to set aside the court order of declaring Murtaza as proclaimed absconder.
The bench after hearing initial arguments issued notices to the NAB authorities and Interior Ministry for December 11 and sought their reply.
It is pertinent to mention that owners of Eden Housing (Pvt) Limited, collected over Rs 13 billion in funds but subsequently failed to develop the scheme or hand over possession of plots to allottees. The accused include Muhammad Amjad, Anjum Amjad, Murtaza Amjad and others. All the accused fled the country in the first week of May after investigations against them progressed at NAB.
