ISLAMABAD, Nov 9 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Nov, 2016 ) : The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned hearing of the NA-110 election matter till Thursday (November 10). A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan heard the case filed by Usman Dar against the Election Tribunal verdict.
It may be mentioned that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif won election from NA-110 Sialkot constituency on Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) ticket in general election 2013. His rival Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate Usman Dar challenged his success before the Election Tribunal.
The ET dismissed Dar's petition. Later, Dar filed petition in Supreme Court against ET verdict. During the course of proceedings, the petitioner's counsel Dr Babar Awan told the court that the election matter had been pending for last four years.
He alleged that election staff was involved in illegal activities. He said the Election Commission also submitted its report regarding 29 polling stations. He said that Sections 44, 78 and 83 of Representation of People Act (ROPA) were violated during the election.
He said the apex court disqualified Saddiq Baloch, Omar Ayub and Khalid Magsi over same nature of cases. Farooq H Naek, counsel for Khawaja Asif, said the petitioner had alleged that some voters got injuries on election day but he failed to produce their medical record before the court.
He said there was contradictions in the statements of witnesses. Statements of only ten witnesses form 227 polling stations were recorded and none of them told about poor law and order situation, corrupt practicing and any illegal activity in the election day, he added.
