Ghana goalkeeper Ofori slams 'sleepy' Maritzburg

Ghana and Maritzburg United goalkeeper Richard Ofori slammed his "sleepy" side after a surprise 1-0 home loss to Free State Stars

JOHANNESBURG, Sept 29 (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Sep, 2017 ) - Ghana and Maritzburg United goalkeeper Richard Ofori slammed his "sleepy" side after a surprise 1-0 home loss to Free State stars Friday in the South African Premiership.

Sinethemba Jantjie clinically fired the only goal in eastern city Pietermaritzburg on 73 minutes from a swift counter-attack after United were dispossessed in their half. "We were sleepy and need to wake up," fumed Ofori, who joined Maritzburg in mid-year after helping Wa All Stars become Ghana champions for the first time.

"The level of our performances has dropped and we did not come to the party tonight," lamented the 23-year-old. After two wins at the start of the August-May season lifted them to the top, Maritzburg have slipped to sixth, taking only two points from a possible 12.

Ninth-place Stars are improving under recently appointed Belgian coach Luc Eymael, winning twice in a row after securing just one point from four matches.
