Sri Lanka beat Pakistan 4-1 in Badminton as squash players poorly lost in minutes

Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in their second match of the badminton event part of the ongoing Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games being played at different venues.

Pakistani players failed to impress and were sidelined in most of the events. In the badminton, Pakistan team were earlier beaten by the Scotland, failed to click back against Sri-Lanka and lost the match by 4-1.

In the mixed doubles Sri Lankan pair of Bunwaneka Goodnethilleka and Kavidi Sirinanage recorded victory against Muhammad Irfan and Palwasha of Pakistan by 21-16 and 21-4. The Sri Lankan pair right from the start dominated the proceeding and did not allow Pakistan pair to play with free hands.

In the Men singles Dinuka Karunaratna beat Murad Ali 21-18 and 21-17 in 34 minutes, In the Men doubles Buwaneka Goonethlleka and Sachin Dias beat Murad Ali and Muhammad Irfan by 21-11 and 21-14 in 29 minute.

It was the women singles when Mahoor defeated Madushika of Sri Lanka by 21-14 and 21-18. After 3-1, Sri Lanka bounced back and in the Women's doubles Thilini Pramodika and Kavidi beat Mahoor and Palwasha Bashir by 21-7 and 21-11 in 23 minutes to seal the fate of Pakistan 4-1.

In the weightlifting category of 69kg weight Abu Sufyan got 12 position after clearing a weight of 127kg and 130kg in Snatch and 156kg, 160kg in the Clean and Jerk as Gareth Vans of Wales got gold medal with his overall total of 299kg weight, followed by Indika of Sri Lanka with 297kg and Deepak Cather of India took bronze medal with 295kg weight.

It is very poor result of the squash players in the Games as Farhan Zaman lost to James Willstrop of England, first set 11-5 in just one minute, second set 11-1 in 2 minutes and third second in 10m at 11-7.

In the Plate matches Faiza Zafar beaten in the quarter-finals against Khanliqa Nimji of Kenya 3-0. Faiza earlier defeated Samantha of Cayman Island by 11-7, 11-3 and 11-3. Kevin Moran of defeated Farhan Zaman by 3-1, the score was 9-11, 11-8, 11-5 and 11-8.

Madina Zafar beat Lymnbette Vai of Papua New Guinea by 3-12, 11-7 and 11-5, Tayyab Aslam got a walk out against Micah Franklin of Bermuda. In the swimming event Bisma Khan got 7th position in 40m free style heat with his poor time of 28.65. She is also competing in 100m free style and 50m back stroke on Saturday.
