Belarus to send first national report to UN Committee on Rights of Persons with Disabilities

A visiting session of the Belarusian National Interdepartmental Council on Disability was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.

MINSK, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Nov, 2018 ) :A visiting session of the Belarusian National Interdepartmental Council on Disability was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.

The council approved the first national report on the measures undertaken by the Republic of Belarus to comply with its obligations under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The report will be submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The council also adopted a the work plan for 2019.

The meeting discussed the issues related to the development of a barrier-free environment for the visually impaired.

The council highlighted the need for unconditional compliance with the legal acts to ensure barrier-free environment for the disabled and physically handicapped persons in part of design, construction, reconstruction of residential and public buildings, facilities and structures of social and transport infrastructure.

The participants of the meeting visited several boarding institutions of Minsk.

The National Interdepartmental Council on Disability was established by Resolution No. 129 of the Council of Ministers of 2 February 2009 in pursuance of Article 10 of the Law of Belarus. It consists of the heads of the government bodies, public organizations of persons with disabilities and veterans.
