BEIJING (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2018) Pyongyang and Seoul should not miss the chance for the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday, commenting on the recent summit of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in.
The intra-Korean summit was held in the North Korean capital on Tuesday and Wednesday. This was the third meeting between the North Korean and South Korean leaders this year. Following the summit, Kim and Moon signed a joint statement, while the two countries' defense ministers signed a military agreement.
"This year marks the 65th anniversary of the signing of the agreement on the end of war between the DPRK and South Korea. The peace has been delayed, no one should allow this rare opportunity for peace to be missed once again," Wang said.
The Chinese foreign minister commended the signing of a joint declaration by Kim and Moon in Pyongyang, stressing that it reflected the aspirations of the peoples of all the countries, including China.
"The Chinese party extends warm congratulations and expresses its strong support in this regard," Wang emphasized.
According to the joint statement of Kim and Moon, Pyongyang has promised to close its missile test range in Tongchang-ri and completely disassemble its nuclear facilities in Yongbyon. In addition, the two parties agreed to halt large-scale military drills and military flights near the demilitarized zone and to establish in the border regions of the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan an area where military drills would not be held.
