Former Obama Cabinet Member Julian Castro Officially Announces 2020 Presidential Bid

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th January, 2019) Julian Castro, a Texas Democrat and former US secretary of Housing and Urban Development, announced on Saturday he will be running for president in 2020.�

"I'm running for president because it's time for new leadership, it's time for new energy, it's time for new commitment to make sure the opportunities that I had are available to every American," Castro said as quoted by CBS news.

Castro made the announcement in his hometown San Antonio, where he served as mayor for five years.

In his speech, he focused on health care and criminal justice reform, and expressed support for the "Black Lives Matter" movement.
